Classes

  • That’s Dancin’ School of Dance provides a wide level of courses for every level in ballet, jazz, tap and modern. Our graded classes are based on age and ability. We place each student in a dance level appropriate to this criteria and any previous dance training is taken into consideration. Class placement is based on the discretion of the schools staff. Advancement is not necessarily by classes as a whole.
  • Pre-School
  • Creative Movement: A fifty minute class introducing the student to the fundamentals of movement, music and basic coordination steps.
  • Ages 5 and Up
  • Ballet: Technical training of classical ballet, the basis of all dance movement. All of our classes embody a classical bar warm-up, center floor (Adagio), and “Across the floor work.”
  • Tap: A syncopated stylized form of movement which develops coordination, rhythm and balance, stressing foot work.
  • Jazz: Modern Jazz dance teaches the student contemporary and primitive styles. Although movements are less rigidly formalized than in ballet, the exercises teach and develop the ability to control and move each part of the body. ***Previous ballet is not required for admission to jazz and tap classes, the technical training of ballet provides a strong foundation for all other forms of dance. Students will benefit greatly by attending a ballet class in addition to jazz and tap.
  • Modern: Modern Dance is comprised of highly individualized movements based upon personalized, ever-changing artistic standards.
  • Hip Hop: A non-technique class offering the newest ideas in hip hop; pop; reggae and club funk. Steps will be broken down and explained to teach the many moves some basic ones that are seen in today’s music video’s.

 

Class Attire – Dress Code

In order for teachers to see movements and make corrections it is important for all students to wear proper dance attire to class. Ballet students must wear their hair in a bun. Jazz and tap students must wear their hair pulled back off of the face. Students may wear leg warmers and tight fitting sweaters in cold weather. “That’s Dancin’ ‘T’ SHIRT will be the only cover-up permitted in class. STUDENTS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED IN CLASS WITHOUT PROPER ATTIRE. THE DRESS CODE WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED!

Mandatory Dress Code

  • Pre-School Classes:
    Black motion wear skirted bodysuit, pink footed tights, pink Bloch ballet shoes, and Capezio tan tap shoes.
  • Tap & Jazz Classes:
    Red bodysuit or Red Bikatard (Shorti), light tan convertible tights, and Capezio tan tap shoes.
  • Ballet Classes: Pink & black bodysuit, pink tights and Bloch pink ballet shoes. Please do not wear jewelry to class.
  • Modern Classes: Red or Black bodysuit

  • Hip-Hop Classes:
    That’s Dancin’ cargo pants / TD “T” shirt / TD capris / TD sweats / TD shorts / or Red bodysuit, with Hip Hop sneakers.

***All leotards are available for purchase at the dance studio. The leotards are screened with the school logo. Shoes are also available at the studio.
